Easy choices, Hard life

Hard choices, Easy life

Our Story

I met my wife in 2013 at a bar in Chicago. She was French and I was American, our personalities were similar and but our views on life were different.

She valued experiences and simplicity. I valued hard work and financial security.

We started to open up about our ideal future together and what we wanted. During our discussion, we realized that we were far apart on our dreams.

The critical thought that entered our head was, “how can we achieve our dreams sooner and not worry about money”.

The key is asking how, not saying we couldn’t.

I started to devour books on different real estate topics, read blogs about finance and listen to podcasts about those who have traveled the world.

In 2018, after seeing roughly 100 different rental properties and losing multiple offers, we purchased our first rental property, a 3 unit building in Chicago that allowed us to rent out two units and live in the 3rd unit rent free. This would eliminate our largest expense that we current had, which was rent.

Over the next 5 years, we began to focus on our careers. Improving our skills, excelling at our jobs and strategically moving to higher paying roles.

As we earned more income, we invested the surplus strictly into the stock market and self education.

In 2023, we welcome our first child into our lives, our son Remy. Prior to his arrival, we purchased a second investment property that was a better fit for raising a family and hosting others.

The two rental properties along with the surplus of investments allowed my wife to quit her job and help take care of our son full time.

In 2025, I will leave my job and we will begin our new life of traveling across the U.S. in a RV. We were able to create the life we wanted by being patient, creative, hard working and going after what makes us the happiest.
